This sounds like a complicated task but not so with a free tool Aeomi Partition Assistant. So the first step is to install AOMEI Partition Assistant standard edition which is free. After starting the program we can see that there are 2 drives on the system the first being a 128gb\u00a0 2.5 INCH SSD which is nearly full and the second is a 500gb Western Digital NVMe\u00a0 SSD drive plugged into the M2 slot of the motherboard. [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.perthcomputer-repairs.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screenshot_3-1024×520.avif” alt=”SSD repair upgrade” title_text=”Aemoi Partition Assistant” _builder_version=”4.23.2″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]Because it is diifcult to clone a system drive while it is in operation we need to boot up from a USB drive to perform the cloning of our 128GB drive to our new 500gb NVMe drive. For this job I use the System Rescue CD tool and in the screenshot we can see the 128gb drive has been identified at\u00a0 \/dev\/sda1 and our new drive at \/dev\/nvme0n1.\u00a0 We then can use ddrescue see the terminal window to the right to clone our system drive. The command to do this is\u00a0ddrescue -f -n \/dev\/sda1 \/dev\/nvme0n1\u00a0 mapfile.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.perthcomputer-repairs.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screenshot_2022-03-14_11-03-01-1024×640.avif” alt=”System Rescue CD – Computer Repairs” title_text=”System Rescue Program” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]After the clone we can shutdown the system and remove both the System Rescue USB and the original\u00a0 128gb System Drive to check that the clone has been successful and we will know this if Windows boots up properly from the new 500gb drive. As we can see in the picture below the system has booted\u00a0 and AEMOI Partition Asisstant is showing or newly cloned drive.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.perthcomputer-repairs.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screenshot_1-1024×540.avif” alt=”Computer Repairs” title_text=”Successful drive clone” _builder_version=”4.23.2″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]We now need to recover the unclaimed space on the drive and assign it to the system partition. I called on Sunday for a last-minute repair on my MacBook Air, and the issue was fixed quickly and efficiently. The setup was at the front of the house and a little cluttered, but the quality of service was excellent. He\u2019s quite loud, but very friendly and professional. The price was very reasonable, especially for short-notice service. I would definitely recommend his work.
